Underwriter Assistant
Job Summary:
 
The Associate assists the underwriters by monitoring their cases that have outstanding underwriting requirements and assisting in multiple ways by contacting the producer or vendors to obtain the requirements. The Associate also assists the underwriter with any administrative tasks, follow up questions, ordering of requirements, agent call outs or special investigations when necessary.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Proactively review files where outstanding requirements may become problems and proactively communicate with producers via email or phone on resolving.
  • Reconcile file requirements that are not yet received at the home office by reviewing multiple computer systems, databases and vendor websites to proactively communicate with the agents via email or phone.
  • Answer calls and emails from producers or Contact Center personnel inquiring about requirements, concerns, or status clarifications.
  • Contact vendors to follow up on outstanding requirements or to order requirements.
  • Resolve any questions or inquiries related to anything that is needed prior to underwriting approval and troubleshoot at any point in the process.
  • Follow-up on underwriting email requests.
  • Assist underwriters with administrative tasks such as granting extension requests and processing agent/customer closeouts.
  • Act as a back up to the underwriter when they are out of the office by helping with phone calls and monitoring emails.
  • Run illustrations to provide annual premium information.
  • Analyze reports to identify issues/complaints reported by the field, chiefs, managers and senior leaders within Underwriting
 
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Experience:
 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1 years of experience with Life New Business systems and processes preferred
  • Intermediate working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of products and window-based applications
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Intermediate time management skills
  • Basic project management skills
  • Quality control and attention to detail
  • Works effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work through and communicate complex situations
  • Effective communication in working with others in everyday situations
  • Ability to research, analyze and resolve issues
  • Work independently.
