Biochemist I is an entry-level position responsible for learning and performing the manufacturing processes by following SOP/WI in the Purification department with some departmental supervision. This position reports directly to the immediate supervisor and assists him/her with the day to day laboratory operations. This position is responsible for maintaining good documentation practices, providing good quality products while meeting commitments to timelines. The position is also responsible for creating Quality Notifications to report product or process issues. Biochemist I are further responsible for completing the assigned individual impact goals (IIGs). A Biochemist I will support and participate in continuous improvements projects as identified by the Executive Steering Committee and assigned by the supervisor.

General knowledge of biochemistry, protein chemistry, column chromatography and or other related discipline.
Hands on experience in basic protein purification techniques are required.
Familiarity with operation of routine laboratory instruments and applicable software as described above.

Performs different purification processes accurately and independently having a complete understanding of the techniques, theories and background involved.
Must be able to learn and perform standard and custom protein purification methods independently while having a solid understanding of the techniques and background involved in making the purified antibody.
Technical expectations set by learning and performing duties with minimal supervision on:
Equipment operation: pipet, spectrophotometer, centrifuge, peristaltic pump,
Column chromatography: AKTA, HPLC, gel filtration, ion exchange column, SEC column chromatography


Responsible for performing basic and applied research to provide innovative solutions for internal and customer funded projects. Demonstrates basic knowledge of respective scientific discipline and standard scientific method and techniques. Under supervision applies scientific knowledge and skills within respective discipline to assigned work. Supports innovative process by performing literature and patent searches.
