Medical Staff Coordinator
Responsible for leading, coordinating, monitoring, and maintaining the credentialing and re-credentialing processes.
Facilitates all aspects of St. Elizabeth Medical Center’s (SEMC) credentialing, including initial appointment, reappointment, expirables process, as well as clinical privileging for Medical Staff, Advanced Practice Providers as outlined in the SEMC’s Medical Staff Bylaws and policies.
Ensures interpretation and compliance with the appropriate accrediting and regulatory agencies, while developing and maintaining a working knowledge of the statutes and laws relating to credentialing and privileging. Responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the credentialing database system and related applications. Works under the supervision of the MSA Manager.
Works collaboratively with CVO staff on Initial and Reappointment Applications, as well as participating in the collection and uploading of credentials expirable documents
Monitors the initial, reappointment and expirables process for all medical staff, Allied Health Professional staff ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies (Joint Commission, Client, federal and state), as well as Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations and policies and procedures.
Leads, coordinates, and monitors the review and analysis of practitioner applications and accompanying documents, ensuring applicant eligibility
Identifies issues that require additional investigation and evaluation, validates discrepancies and ensures appropriate follow up.
Conducts thorough background investigation, research and primary source verification of all components of the application file for Additional Privileges Application requests
Prepares credentials file for completion and presentation to Health System Entity Medical Staff Committees, ensuring file completion within time periods specified.
Processes requests for privileges, ensuring compliance with criteria outlined in clinical privilege escriptions.
Responds to inquiries from other healthcare organizations, interfaces with internal and external customers on day-to-day credentialing and privileging issues as they arise.
Manages and maintains confidential information.
Conducts internal file audits
Utilizes the Cactus credentialing database, optimizing efficiency, and performs query, report and document generation; submits
Conducts Monthly On-boarding and Off-Boarding Credentialing and Privileging Tasks (e.g. Meditech updates, approval letters, uploading of approved privileges)
Responsible for managing the data and administration of the OPPE / FPPE processes
Manage NPDB Continuous Query received reports per Department Policy
Communications with internal /external parties to obtain credentialing documents
Administrative support to Medical Staff leadership
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by MSA Manager or SEMC CMO
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
Solid experience as a Medical Staff Coordinator or Credentialing specialist – preferably 1-3 years in a hospital environment.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
Excellent project planning and implementation skills.
Working knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
Working knowledge of hospital credentialing and privileging procedures and standards.
Exceptional ability to analyze, interpret and draw inferences from research findings, and prepare reports.
Working knowledge of clinical and/or hospital operations and procedures.
First-rate informational research skills.
Remarkable ability to use independent judgment to manage and impart confidential information.
Unique database management skills including querying, reporting, and document generation.
Excellent ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
Solid experience with MSO Office applications and Outlook Exchange skills.
Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
Education: High school diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience (Type & Length): 1-5 years Credentialing Specialist/Coordinator in hospital environment
Certification/Licensure NAMSS Certification as a Certified Professional Medical Services Manager (CPMSM) or Certified Provider Credentials Specialist (CPCS) or actively pursuing /or willing to pursue certification.
Software/Hardware: Cactus credentialing software preferred; standard office telephone, fax, scanner, copy/printer equipment
Typing Skills: 60+ per minute
Internet Skills: must demonstrate comfortable level of use
Other: Strong MSO Office applications and Outlook Exchange skills
