Responsible for preparing statistical reports, coding diseases and operations according to accepted classification systems and maintaining indices according to established policies and procedures. Computer proficiency, analytical skills, ICD 9-CM/CPT coding knowledge. Demonstrated knowledge of coding procedures, extensive reimbursement system knowledge, written and verbal communication skills. Minimum 2 years experience. Credentialed and have the ability to code either OP/ER/ASC and/or Inpatient charts; or, no credentials but has the ability to code both Inpatient, Outpatient, ER & ASC charts proficiently. RHIT, RHIA, CCS or CPC preferred. Graduate as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from an approved program by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA)or the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Minimum of five (5) years direct work experience may be substituted for credentialing courses.
Inpatient Coder
• Ability to read and abstract documentation on the chart for assignment of accurate principle diagnosis selection
• Ability to read and comprehend operative reports to code procedures accurately
• Familiar with general coding guidelines and chapter specific guidelines
• Knowledge of Coding Clinics
• Maintains a 95% or above accuracy rate on coding audits
• Productivity standard for IP coding is 3-4 charts per hour
