Building and testing of various laser components (optical, mechanical, and electrical) in support of engineering development and pilot production. The optical engineering technician will work closely with other technicians and engineers in executing tasks that could include fiber optic assemblies, subassembly & box level assembly / test, thermal testing, fiber optic splicing, and other similar assembly and test tasks both in the R&D labs and on the pilot production line. The engineering technician will also support the upkeep of the labs including ordering consumable supplies, tracking calibrated equipment, and other similar tasks.

Experience in fiber optic assembly and routing. Proven mechanical assembly history and familiarity with electrical systems and circuit boards. Attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, ability to multitask, good organizational skills, computer literacy, and a demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment. Ability to read blue prints, schematics, and drawings and following verbal and written instructions. Experience reading work instructions and performing tasks as per instructions.
  • Educational background in optics and electronics. Experience running, testing, and measuring lasers or complex optical systems.
  • Exceptional lab skills: ability to prototype, test, and debug electronics
  • Experience in handling fiber, fiber splicing equipment including fiber polishing equipment.
  • Experience in testing analog, power electronics, RF, and digital circuits.
  • IPC solder certification
