Fleet Analyst

Project Overview:
  • This role will support client's fleet and vehicle and heavy equipment needs.
  • The successful candidate will assist in conducting in-depth research, developing comprehensive fleet specifications, and providing sound recommendations to support large fleet and heavy equipment purchases.

Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Performs research, prepares written recommendations, detailed bidding specifications, and bid evaluations for the purchase of new and replacement vehicles and heavy equipment in compliance with local, state or federal regulations.
  • Communicates with departments to discuss equipment requirements, projected usage, and determine future equipment needs.
  • Meets with personnel from operating departments to ascertain the equipment needs for individual departments based on their usage.
  • Prepares performance based and technical based specifications, written analysis of bids, and purchase recommendations, tracks expected delivery times and maintains liaison with vendors.
  • Performs physical and operational inspections of existing vehicles and equipment as well as pre-delivery inspections of new vehicles and equipment.
  • Coordinates on site, pre-delivery inspections, new equipment demonstrations, and equipment maintenance training classes.
  • Determines equipment suitability and the use of alternative types of equipment.
  • Conducts fleet operation and maintenance studies to identify units requiring replacement.
  • Assist Director of Fleet Operations to develop and manage the Vehicle Replacement Program's operational and capital budgets.

  • Analytical skills to evaluate complex information, formulate thoughts, and develop sound recommendations and/or action plans.
  • Ability to take initiative in researching data from a variety of sources - internet, internal clients, vendors, manufacturers, and/or other municipalities.
  • Ability to work independently in prioritizing work, responding to client needs, and meeting established deadlines.
  • Attention to detail in accurately reporting research information gathered.
  • Excellent written communication skills to clearly and concisely develop fleet and heavy equipment specifications.
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate with representatives of various departments to discuss equipment requirements, projected usage, and determine future equipment needs.

Education and Certifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited two (2) year college or university and have two (2) years' experience in a related field which includes Manufacturing, Fleet Maintenance (Heavy Equipment, Vehicles, Trucks, or other Fleet Equipment), Design Engineering, Production Management, Buying, Specification Writing, Sales Associate, and/or Fleet manager/Supervisor.
  • Must possess a valid NYS driver's license. CDL preferred.
  • A comparable amount of training and related experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
