Signal Integrity Engineer

Engineers in the Power & Signal Integrity Group work with the various business units to help bring leading edge mobile products to market. The candidate will work in a team oriented environment to provide electrical design expertise in the areas of signal integrity and power distribution for the design of wireless products and development systems. This engineer must interface with digital board designers, IC designers, packaging engineers, applications engineers, test engineers, and reference platform design teams to guide them on signal integrity issues. Working effectively across organizational boundaries is essential as is the effective presentation and documentation of results. The candidate is expected to proactively seek ways to optimize designs, streamline and validate signal and power integrity modeling and simulation methodologies, and develop an expert level of knowledge of relevant EDA software tools. The position offers the opportunity to design test boards and use high frequency measurement equipment to validate selected models and simulations. Responsibilities: Perform various IO analyses, potentially from model extraction through simulation and reporting of conclusions. IO types include DDR memory interfaces and variety of serial interfaces. Analyze and provide design guidance on power distribution networks for mobile product development and reference systems. Perform high frequency measurements for purposes of analysis and validation of simulations. Create and deliver short, focused presentations for technical training. Propose and define requirements for design and analysis methodologies.
Targeted Skills/Experience: Solid understanding of electromagnetic theory and its application to transmission lines Excellent teamwork skills Knowledgeable about basic signal and power integrity concepts Competency with Ansys HFSS or a similar 3D electromagnetic field solver Competency with one or more commercial SI or RF analysis tools Excellent oral and written communication skills, including fluency in written and spoken American English Experience with SPICE transient simulation including use of IBIS models
Experience with DDR and LPDDR design and analysis Experience with high speed serial IO design and analysis Experience with Ansys, Sigrity, Agilent, and MATLAB tools desirable. Basic programming skills in Perl, C, C+, or similar languages Experience using spreadsheets and similar productivity tools, including scripting Experience with VNA or TDR based high frequency measurements Familiarity or experience with Mentor or Cadence board design tools
Required: Bachelor's, Electrical Engineering Preferred: Master's or equivalent experience
