Basic Function

Manage the strategic sourcing projects for the corporation. Manage, direct and execute activities related to new source development, cost reduction and new product introduction essential to the operation of the Company. Develop long term strategies, place purchase orders and ensure material availability for assigned product categories.

  • The incumbent must have a Bachelor's degree with 10 or more years experience in diverse procurement and commodity capacities or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • The incumbent must possess sound knowledge of MRP and purchasing practices
  • Familiarity with international trade and logistics required
  • International buying experience required with a focus on sourcing from Asia preferred.
  • Familiarity with PPAP process required
  • The incumbent must be computer literate and have proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet programs and strong knowledge of MRP software and interpreting/analyzing MRP data.
  • The incumbent must be able to place purchase orders and ensure required material availability
  • The incumbent must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written and solid organizational, planning, supervision and interpersonal managing skills.
  • Familiarity with Chinese language preferred.
  • Experience with large re-sourcing projects as well as sourcing private labelled finished electronics products from Asia preferred.
  • Experience in an ISO 9001 environment, ERP systems and Lean Manufacturing is also preferred. Professional development training/certifications in procurement, e.g. CPM or CPIM are preferred
  • Ability to travel globally

Nature and Scope

The Strategic Sourcing Manager reports to the Director, Global Supply Chain of the organization. The Strategic Sourcing Manager is primarily responsible to continuously analyze global market trends and conditions to determine present and future material availability and take/direct appropriate actions. The incumbent will investigate new developments related to materials and supplies and make recommendations designed to reduce costs and improve quality. The incumbent is responsible for constantly seeking cost reductions and ensuring the lowest negotiated price.

In the process of selecting suppliers, the incumbent will assess supplier capabilities, develop alternate sources, negotiate price and delivery and travel globally as needed to accomplish the same. Collaboration with other departments on purchasing matters is a key element of the position. The incumbent will work closely with the Engineering Department on new product development and the Quality Department in areas such as vendor and material selection, vendor capability and cost control. He/She will also need to work with other departments to evaluate and approve such new suppliers / products.
The incumbent will monitor and evaluate supplier performance, determine and take necessary actions when serious variations arise in delivery, quality, price or conditions of sale. The Global Sourcing Manager will take necessary actions as determined through MRP process and initiate corrective actions to suppliers as applicable.

The Strategic Sourcing Manager is responsible for developing and providing strategic recommendations to achieve long and short-term goals. In Addition, the incumbent will be responsible for contract management and long-term strategic sourcing agreements that are critical to the Company's strategic goals.

In the realm of inventory control, the incumbent will monitor the company's exposure to excess and obsolete inventory and take appropriate action to disposition as authorized. In addition, the incumbent is responsible, working with planning, to manage the inventory levels to achieve the corporate goals.

Essential Functions
  1. Identifying sources for new products being launched by the company
  2. Interface with engineering to validate and approve such sourced products / suppliers
  3. Actively manage the strategic sourcing and cost reduction activities for the corporation including those at the contract manufacturers
  4. Provide leadership and strong tactical negotiation skills to obtain the lowest total cost.
  5. Continuously analyze worldwide suppliers to achieve yearly cost reductions and bring latest technologies.
  6. Support engineering, quality assurance and mfg. as the operations program manager for contract manufacturers.
  7. Assist in the development and execute the implementation of supplier and commodity strategies.
  8. Continuously analyze global market trends and conditions.
  9. Place purchase orders for assigned products and ensure required material availability
  10. Select suppliers, assess capabilities, develop alternate sources, and negotiate price and delivery.
  11. Travel globally as required – often independently.
  12. Monitor and evaluate supplier performance. Take necessary actions regarding same.
  13. Monitor company's exposure to excess and control obsolete inventory beyond corporate goals.
  14. Ensure proper documentation for all purchase orders and requisitions meet Sarbanes Oxley requirements.
  15. Regular attendance at work.
