Provides mold, machine, and process set-up of all product changeovers and startups. Delivers stable process to manufacturing at beginning of runs and provides root cause troubleshooting support throughout production runs when applicable. Responsible for following all applicable safety, quality, and production standards.
Principal Relationships:
Reports to: Maintenance Manager
Supervises: None
Interacts with: Plant Manager, Maintenance, Tooling, Engineering and the Production.
General Responsibilities:
  • Leads and delivers complete and accurate mold/version change and own all activities from last good part to first good part of the next product. May provide work leadership to support this objective to 1-4 coworkers as needed.
  • Oversee production startups, shutdowns, and changeovers.
  • Responsible to meet production and other business-related goals.
  • Maintain knowledge of product quality, check for flaws, blemishes, discoloration, burn marks, and warping.
  • Notify supervisor of any suspect quality issues. Coordinate with supporting teams to resolve quality issues.
  • Lead in clean-up of manufacturing areas prior to completing mold/version change activities.
  • Maintain safe workplace and ensure that safety policies are followed.
  • Start up and troubleshoot machines, molds, materials, and auxiliary equipment, ensuring machines run within operating parameters.
  • Ensures tools and equipment need to change a mold in a timely manor are setup and available prior to the mold change.
  • Inspects equipment on the mold, such as water lines, clamps, etc. and replaces them as necessary.
  • Assists Process Engineering in setting up, documenting, and training on newly launched molds/process.
  • Informs Manager/Lead when critical replacement parts are used from inventory.
  • Leads root cause analysis on process changes that have occurred during production runs.
  • Responsible for data collection and trend analysis to support maintenance and tooling with predictive/preventative maintenance objectives.

    • Safe and competent operation of all overhead cranes and rigging of loads.
    • Ability to understand and implement commonly used plastic processing techniques.

Qualifications [Knowledge, Experience Skills]:
Knowledge/Education Required:
High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred. Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required (Related work experience can be substituted for educational requirement.)
Related Experience Required:
  • 2 to 5 years experience in injection molding industry
  • 1 to 3 years experience as mold setter/set-up technician/process technician
  • A broad base of current technical knowledge to ensure that safety standards are met and efficiencies are maintained.
  • Knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery particular to the injection molding industry.
    • Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.
