Designs new products and makes improvements to existing products. May evaluate products, parts, or processes for cost efficiency and reliability and ensure project completion. Works with other members of the engineering staff to ensure that production is completed in a timely manner. Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty and 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.
Production support, which includes resolving design issues, provide root cause & corrective actions, assist with field/customer issues, manufacturing issues, test issues, and component issues on complex avionics. The selected candidate will also be responsible for coordination of engineering program needs and production delivery requirements with a focus on meeting customer requirements and program schedules. The selected candidate will work in team environments to provide electrical system support for ongoing production as well as new product introduction activities.
Additional responsibilities, depending on the level, will include some or all of:
•Coordinate with the factory on product design, testing, and factory disruptions impacting delivery, yield and quality
•Troubleshoot avionics equipment to the component level; use of oscilloscopes, counter timers, digital multi-meters, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and power supplies
•Understanding of Electrical/Electromechanical Products and associated documentation, i.e. Schematics, Fabrication, Parts lists, Assembly Drawings)
•Applies Six Sigma DMAIC principles in product investigations
•Documents findings and develops white papers
•Prepares cost estimates in support of proposed or existing projects
•Uses system/circuit analyses, simulations, and prototyping to support design improvements
•Conducts/oversees engineering tests to validate design concepts.
•Submits/approves engineering change Notices for drawing changes as required
•Coordinates with engineering experts across disciplines and COEs, as necessary, to identify optimal solutions
•Coordinates technical solutions with relevant suppliers, vendors & their products
•Selects appropriate components for improving designs and supports replacement of obsolete parts in existing designs
•Must be a US citizen
•Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar discipline is required
•Five+ years related design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is required
•Strong electrical design and analytical skills
•Ability to properly interpret/create/revise product requirements, Procurement Specifications, Statement of Work (SOW) requirements, Service Bulletins, Schematics, Drawings, and Diagrams
•Ability to analyze and design/improve RF, analog and digital circuits,
•Experience with RF receivers and transmitters, power supplies, motor drives, feedback control loops, and embedded digital controls
•Experience with circuit simulation
•Ability to provide good quality written reports and oral presentations to program or engineering management and customers to explain technical approaches and project status
•General familiarity of aircraft operation and avionics systems
•Ability to effectively work with other internal groups (Production, Component Engineering, Certification Purchasing, Suppliers) in a globalized team environment
•Effectively interact with OEMs to facilitate OEM approval of design changes
•Ability to coordinate the resolution of complex issues
•Ability to handle multiple activities/priorities effectively
•Action oriented, results driven, high energy
•Influential with peers and customers and demonstrate critical thinking skills
•Excellent computer skills including MS office suite
•Effective verbal and written communication skills
