Prestigious law firm in the Capital District is seeking an Associate Attorney for its personal injury department. Our client offers a full benefits package and potential bonus opportunities.

Working alongside Case Coordinators and Paralegals, the Associate Attorney will be responsible for:
  • Advising and assisting clients with documentation regarding no-fault issues, property damage and personal injury.
  • Maintaining contact with clients by phone, email and face-to-face meetings throughout the duration of the case.
  • Setting up cases with liability, no-fault and uninsured/supplemental underinsured insurance carriers and maintaining contact with the respective adjusters regularly while the cases are ongoing.
  • Researching legal issues involving motor vehicle, premises liability and other personal injury matters.
  • Facilitating all investigation necessary to fully prosecute personal injury claims.
  • Documenting the ongoing status of each case by use of a paperless case management system and establishing an individual timeline for each case based on the medical status of the client and other relevant factors.
  • Regularly reviewing case statuses and identifying issues that may inhibit timely case resolutions.
  • Negotiating with the insurance carrier(s) in an effort to resolve each case by way of settlement. This involves reviewing medical records and the full investigation of the case in order to assess overall case value and insurance coverage, including individual research / analysis, as well as committee meetings to complete case evaluation.
  • Preparing detailed demand packages for the insurance carrier(s) and then endeavoring to reach a favorable settlement in each case.
  • Evaluating and negotiating liens involving Medicare, Medicaid, other health insurance carriers, New York State Disability, Worker's Compensation, Additional Personal Injury Protection and other entities.
  • Advising and assisting case managers in settlement of personal injury claims.
  • Preparing Notices of Claim in cases with potential municipal involvement, Notices of Intentions to File Claims in cases with potential state involvement, Federal Tort Claims Act Form 95s in cases with potential federal involvement and infant compromise petitions in cases involving infant settlements.
  • Appearing in Municipal Law section 50-H Hearings, No-Fault Examinations under Oath, Infant Compromise Hearings in New York State Supreme Court, Mediations and Arbitrations on behalf of their clients.
Requirements:
  • Must be admitted to the NYS Bar
  • A one year minimum of recent personal injury experience strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of PC applications, Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Strong oral advocacy, writing and analytical skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines
