Job Title: Director of Operations Location: Louisville, KY

SUMMARY
Leads, directs and oversees the operational capabilities and output of all the company's production facilities in the US ensuring OSHA compliance, a Lean manufacturing culture, and continuous improvement mentality. Drives World Class Manufacturing methodologies while simultaneously decreasing inventory and operating expense and monitoring critical Key Performance Indicators related to waste, throughput, and labor. Scope of oversight/responsibility includes Finished Goods, Warehousing/Shipping, Extrusion, Purchasing, Scheduling on the New Albany, IN. campus.

STRATEGIC DUTIES:
  • Develop and establish a manufacturing strategy which allows the organization to gain advantage in the global marketplace.
    • Ensure proper report structure with divisions and departments
    • Help identify opportunities and areas for improvement.
    • Transform status quo methods, processes, and procedures to exceed the demands of current competitive market and needs of customer
  • Advise the Executive Leadership Team on strategic business development and key corporate planning issues that relate and impact the operations of the company.
    • Determine resource allocation.
    • Keep the ELT informed about business activities, performance, opportunities, and recommended courses of action
  • Lead managers to evaluate and take actions that are consistent with the company's overall strategy.
    • Challenge basic assumptions underlying operations
    • Act as a sounding board
    • Hold front-line supervision accountable and implement succession plan for operations personnel
  • Set performance goals tailored to operations
    • Develop operational goals which are aggressive, yet obtainable, and tied to long-term goals of the company
  • Monitor performance against goals to ensure progress is being made and corrective action, if necessary, is taken.
    • Ensure adherence to annual budgets
    • Build an organizational culture in which passion for continuous improvement is innate and elimination of waste/scrap is doctrine
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SAFETY -
  • Ensure that root-cause analysis and corrective action plan for any incidents have been completed. Communicate industry best practices.
  • Inspect production facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact in the investigation and reporting of accidents and injuries.
MANUFACTURING/OPERATIONS -
  • Implement Lean thinking and result-focused orientation deep into plant culture. Track Kaizen initiatives, quick changeover improvements, 5S events, value stream mapping, etc. Identify, document, and share best practices, accomplishments, and victories through plant visits and monthly communication meetings/calls
  • Conduct training in Lean principles and applications throughout the organization
  • Assist in the hiring of Production and Operations personnel at all locations ensuring recruitment of top operations talent
  • Optimize facilities and continually evaluate capacity and limits
  • Project and achieve annual cost savings through continuous improvement projects
  • Increase customer satisfaction/loyalty through improved operations, specifically related to downtime and lead times
  • Effective planning and layout of workflow, equipment, and assembly procedures
EQUIPMENT/ASSETS -
  • Assist with installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of plant equipment.
  • Assist with all tasks related to CEA (Capital Expenditure Appropriation), equipment procurement and status. Perform tooling/equipment vendor reviews.
  • Design, implement, and maintain company-wide Total Preventive Maintenance program.
  • Provide consultation on ERP as it relates to manufacturing optimization.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Manages Facility Operations Managers/Supervisors at manufacturing location.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelors Degree. Engineering or Business Management preferred. MBA preferred.
  • Ten+ years in a Lean manufacturing environment with progressive operational and managerial experience
  • Lean manufacturing certification / relevant experience required
  • Wallcovering or similar print manufacturing experience preferred
  • Proficiency in P/L management and analysis
  • Proven track record in the management of company operations, finance, and quality assurance
  • Ability to travel up to 5% including internationally
  • Computer/ERP skills to fulfill duties and responsibilities, MS Office and project management skills are required.
