 Role Title:              Product & Testing Engineer
Role Purpose:         Perform engineering activities form costing and development through to launch using best practices and standards. Provides internal component testing support for development and production requirements. 
Scope:                   Americas Region; Role is regional in nature, but may also be asked to work on local or global projects as required
Role Reports to:    Product Engineering Manager and/or Director 
Key Responsibilities:
  • People
    • Work cross-functionally with other departments including design, quality, sales, and continuous improvement
    • Understand and live according to the vision, mission, and values of our client and suppliers. 
    • Participate in training opportunities including product and process training
  • Engineering
    • Build routers and perform costing tasks associated with new or changed products taking into consideration all steps in the process including sub-contracted work
    • Assist in the redesign of components in order to make them PM compatible
    • Perform a risk assessment on new products and processes
    • Use systems such as eRFQ, Team Center, etc. to perform tasks and store relevant information
    • Coordinate and organize quoting and launch activities in cooperation with plant engineering, operations, quality, and sales
    • Participate in plant-to-plant Know-How Transfer as necessary
    • Manage local product and process information and intellectual property
  • Customers
    • Provide assistance to the sales and quality teams and represent our team and goals at customers
    • Perform eRFQ's in a timely and accurate fashion
    • Build Brand awareness by standard product presentations based on strategy, product and plant presentations
    • Participate in Tech Days at customers as needed
  • Health, Safety, and the Environment
    • Support health, safety, and environmental initiatives in accordance with  the company methodology while leading by example
    • Be aware of HSE as a part of new business and process development
  • Performing metallurgical analysis and component testing with ability to recognize and analyze various ferrous and non-ferrous microstructures.  Provides feedback and direction for corrective action
  • Adherence to the quality and environmental system, policies, procedures and work instructions (TS-16949, ISO-14001 and other systems as required)
  • Operation of metallurgical lab equipment and managing regularly defined equipment preventive maintenance procedures
  • Conducting all required sampling, testing and reporting in accordance with work instructions and the ability to generate metallurgical certificates
  • Supports the quality department in non conformance reduction, gauging maintenance and records management
  • Participates in teams using LEAN tools and practices in order to achieve continuous and sustained improvements
  • Various other duties as assigned

Plant Management Teams, Sales Management and Team, Global and Regional Engineering Team
Formal qualifications required: 
  • Bachelors Degree in engineering discipline or equivalent experience
  • Prefer minimum 1 year of experience in the Powder Metal (PM) industry with some exposure to P/M products and Processes
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing and process engineering system development, automotive quality systems, ISO/TS/QS International Quality Standards, MPIF standards, and problem solving
  • Basic knowledge of PM manufacturing processes including compacting, sintering, and sizing
  • Computer literate with skills in CAD and all Microsoft Office applications
  • Knowledge of metallurgical structures as described above and use of problem solving tools
  • Knowledge of metallurgical processes
  • Skill in operating various lab equipment including microscopes, specimen preparation and physical testing
  • Skill in using Microsoft applications
