The person in this position will provide leadership, guidance and recommendations in managing all aspects of a project's life cycle and works with all related areas of the organization to define requirements, deliverables and timeliness. Manages complex and intermediate project utilizing the PMI knowledge areas and process groups. They will utilize Project Management Institute Process (PMI) best practices and tools and integrate the Arizona Management Systems (AMS) to manage the strategic goals of the division. The type of assignments that a Senior Project Manager will be assigned versus an Intermediate or Entry level Project Manager differ by the complexity and interconnectivity of the type of projects they maybe assigned and the experience required to manage this type of project. The person in this position is expected to bring their experience and lessons they have learned managing in projects in the past to this role, particularly their risk management skills, communication management skills and stakeholder management skills. The Senior Project Manager is expected to anticipate "client " needs and propose solutions for them. This role should possess a deep knowledge of PMI, the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), and the PMI framework that they are bringing to this role. The Senior Project Manager should also continually seek and capitalize upon opportunities to increase customer satisfaction and improve customer relationships. They are expected to develop their own project plans in Microsoft Project and report out on a regular cadence to leadership the project status. When a project begins to diverge the Senior Project Manager is expected to develop corrective action plans when projects require them and participate in strategic planning and building project plan around the annual improvement plans.

Manages communications and meetings for projects and teams, creates change and problem solves problems independently and is accountable for themselves and their teams. Participates in prioritization meetings with senior leadership to prioritize projects for the team, minimizes exposure and risks across projects, expected to possess expert knowledge in project management to identify opportunities for change and the ability to convey the need for change.

The Senior Project Manager may lead other team members on projects or they may directly manage many large scale projects on their own. This person is expected to lead and inspire other team members to manage projects effectively; evoke creative and innovative thinking from team members while helping them bring their ideas to fruition; coach and provide guidance to other team members to help them successfully complete projects and remove roadblocks for team members, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and contractors working on their projects to successfully complete projects on-time and meet expectations; and is expected to develop and define new approaches, challenge others to develop as leaders while clarifying roles and responsibilities. This person should also work with team members to develop them as leaders while clarifying roles and responsibilities. They should be to develop ways to monitor project areas and progress and take corrective action. They should possess the skills to handle difficult situations tactfully and discretely, and communicate sensitive information effectively.
