Diesel Enginer Trainer

Position Summary: 
As a Diesel Engine Trainer, you will support the Navy's Diesel Engine Training Program. This position will interface with U.S. Navy civilian, engineering and program management personnel, shipbuilder, ship's force, support contractors and industry representatives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the coordination of all aspects of the diesel engine training program for NSWCPD Codes 421 and 422.
  • Provide engineering and technical recommendations for training, including directives, revisions and maintenance requirements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training curriculums and exams based on current fleet events, technical documents, maintenance standards and PMS requirements.
  • Review current fleet training availabilities and recommend additional training to support shortfalls in Lifecycle Training.
  • Update instructors at Lifecycle Training courses on current fleet events and issues so that they may incorporate training events to address these issues.
  • Assist in the coordination of training curriculums, update as required, ensure training is uploaded to the DIMIS website for fleet, and shore facility use.
  • Coordinate logistics arrangements with local area hotels and event centers for sailors attending training events outside fleet concentration areas.
  • Act as liaison between the Navy and NSWCPD while sailors are attending training classes outside of fleet concentration areas
  • Coordinate training events with local area representatives on east and west coasts to support, classrooms, training equipment and facilities.
  • Recommend and develop training program materials with presentations to support fleet needs and requirements.
  • Develop and train instructors on topic delivery, training evaluation, curriculum and testing metrics evaluation.
  • Coordinate training curriculum, instruction, labs and exams for training events.
  • Conduct review and critique training classes, submit course reports with recommended curriculum changes.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • BS in Engineering field or prior Navy experience preferred (shipboard experience working with diesel engines)
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
  • Knowledge of US Navy terminology/processes strongly desired
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team
  • High comfort level working with and around all military/organizational levels, clients, suppliers, and visitors
  • Ability to manage multiple program components and activities simultaneously, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness is achieved per contract requirements
  • Ability to work as a team player and demonstrate personal initiative to complete the work of the team as a whole
  • Must be able to establish a professional rapport with all contract/project stakeholders
  • Must be sensitive to the professional expectations of the business, ensuring a positive interaction and impression for all stakeholders
  • Highly reliable and capable of meeting work schedule consistently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills
Physical Demands and Expectations:
  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, standing and prolonged sitting
  • Ability to travel 30% of the time to assist with various training evolutions
  • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
