Software Developer (ECS)

Position Summary: 

As a Software Developer, you will assist with the design, development, testing, and integration of a complex Engineering Control System (ECS) for a U.S. Navy ship program.  In this role you will interface with civilian U.S. Navy ships force, system engineers, and hardware OEMs.

Contract Requirements:
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Develop, test, and maintain ECS software
  • Work with end-users to analyze specified methods and procedures, identify problems, and document specific requirements
  • Prepare detailed specifications from which software code will be written
  • Generate new code and correct, convert, and/or modify existing code to meet specifications
  • Create and update technical documentation such as users' manuals, product specifications, and training manuals
  • Perform a variety of testing procedures on assigned products, analyze test results and correct problems
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned
  • Participate in special projects as required
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering from an ABET-accredited  college or university
  • 2-5 years' experience with Linux/Unix-based systems, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
  • 2-5 years' experience with C++ and GCC
  • Ability to analyze, test, and propose solutions to problems in operational software
  • Experience with version control systems (i.e. Subversion or Git)
  • An understanding of networking basics (e.g. TCP/IP, UDP, the difference between unicast, broadcast, and multicast)
  • Strong technical writing skills for writing good documentation; must be able to communicate technical ideas
Preferred Experience:
  • Experience with Java
  • Experience with the integration of mechanical and/or electrical systems with software programming
  • CORBA (particularly Java IDL), LDAP, Oracle (other SQL acceptable), and/or RTI DDS technologies
  • Ability to work with Model View Controller (MVC) design patterns
  • Ability to read and compare Software Requirement Sheets (SRS) with code
  • Cisco IOS networking software and switch configuration
  • Netbeans, Eclipse, and Visual Studio IDEs
  • Shell scripting (primarily bash, also some ksh and csh)
Physical Demands and Expectations:
  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing; occasional prolonged sitting
  • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
