Training Instructor/Facilitator

Position Summary:
Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) is looking for a driven entry level Training Instructor/Facilitator to join our team in the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine, providing support to our clients (both government and non-government) in support of the Integrated Project Team Development (IPTD) training on the Project Execution and Deck-plate Effectiveness (PEDE) contract which is managed by Naval Sea Systems Command Code 04X (NAVSEA 04X) in support of naval ship maintenance.

The Training Instructor/Facilitator will interface with program managers from both LCE and clients (government and non-government), PEDE program facilitators, NAVSEA and other naval personnel, and LCE staff. The selected candidate will support the IPTD team on a full time basis. This position is based out of Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard (PNSY) 2-3 days per week and the candidate's home for the remaining 2-3 days. The candidate's LCE home base will be our Norfolk, VA office.

The IPTD program supports shipyard Depot-Level Maintenance availability periods for both Aircraft Carriers and Submarines in accordance with the platform specific maintenance guide. The principle focus of the IPTD Program is to increase the competency of the Naval Maintenance Community work force assigned to positions with roles and responsibilities critical to availability planning and waterfront project team execution. The IPTD Program enables Project Teams to achieve high performance by developing relationships, individuals and team leadership skills that contribute to a culture of success.

The IPTD program is recognized throughout the Naval Maintenance Community as a key element for successful planning, integration, team development, process improvement, and execution performance of availabilities. This position is customer facing with a strong emphasis on building relationships, team trust and coordination.

Contract Requirements:
  • Must be a US citizen with a DOD Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain/maintain a DOD Secret security clearance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct stand up instruction and facilitation
  • Responsible for supporting the coordination and administration of multiple phases of education and training for the naval ship maintenance community based on guidance from the team lead
  • This program is providing customized integrated project team development for project teams responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of US Navy vessels
  • Working with IPTD team lead, confer with customers to gain knowledge of identified work situations requiring preventive or remedial training for employees and project teams that may be used for organization-wide training programs and prescribed learning and curriculums
  • Support the IPTD team lead coordinating and delivering events for each project team assigned
  • Support the team lead to provide training in areas of systems thinking, personal skills development, and team skills development to both customers and internal team members from LCE or the prime contractor
  • Identify opportunities to enhance existing training program for the benefits of the ultimate NAVSEA customer
  • Support the team lead, coordinate responses to requests for specialized training and performance improvement requirements, and support training workshops to meet customer requirements
  • Collect measurements and reports on learning progress and performance to support evaluation of the effectiveness of IPTD team provided training
  • Support report writing and summarization post event
  • Draft PowerPoint presentations, word documents, memos, etc. as needed
  • Schedule meetings and capture meeting minutes
  • Support coordination of events from planning stage through to post-function clean-up; organize resources and activities in support of objectives and established budget
  • Assist other team members with their responsibilities based on volume of work and established priorities
  • Organize self and work space to ensure timely completion of assigned duties, accounting for unanticipated support needs and changing priorities
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
  • Requires Bachelor's degree and up to two years of related (training, military, and/or logistics) experience
  • Up to two years of directly related experience in the development and delivery of training curriculum or demonstrated training experience
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Adobe; basic understanding of computers, teleconferencing and web meeting requirements, connectivity, and equipment
  • Professional attire and communication skills; must be able to think and act quickly in ways that generate consistently positive outcomes
  • Comfortable working with and around all organizational levels, clients, vendors and visitors
  • Demonstrated experience building team cohesion
  • Basic understanding of project management principles
  • Ability to work as a team player and demonstrate personal initiative to complete assigned work
  • Work well on your own establishing your own objectives, tasks, and timeline to accomplish the mission
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Military or government experience preferred
  • Familiarization with naval shipyard environment or heavy industrial environment preferred
  • The ideal candidate would have experience with organizational behavior / process improvement / facilitation / training background
Physical Demands and Expectations:
  • Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing; occasional prolonged sitting
  • Ability to speak, read, hear and write, with or without assistance
  • Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
