Focus area - MQ Process, Queueing Systems, RabbitMQ admin

The Compute Infrastructure team manages the infrastructure systems that are at the core of the IBM Infrastructure Cloud offering. We are in need of a Kafka Systems Administrators to enable data messaging services for internal customers.
If you have extensive knowledge of Unix and Linux operating systems, and at least two years of experience with the Apache Kafka platform or other messaging buses, this is an opportunity for you. IBM BlueMix Infrastructure (SoftLayer) is a complex, challenging, and fast-paced environment that will allow you to utilize your skills to directly impact the continued success and growth of the company.

Responsibilities may include:

Kafka Clusters
• Work with Kafka
• Powering our future service deployments
• Creating new automation and orchestration utilities to increase HA of internal services.
• Building automated processes to proactively catch and remediate problems.
• Building statistical models to weigh risk of proposed fleet changes

Fleet management tooling

• Streamlining host management
• Build new tooling around patching and updating of fleet.
• Build tooling for SRE to troubleshoot systems more effectively.

Steady state operations

• Help in day to day troubleshooting of services to formulate new ways to proactively catch problems.
• Regression testing of changes to validate statistical models.

Documentation

• Work with technical writers to document processes.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise:

• 5+ years of Unix and/or Linux systems administration
• 2+ years cloud experience
• 1+ year Apache Kafka or other message bus experience

Preferred Technical and Professional Experience:

• Virtualization technologies experience (Xen, VMWare, etc)
• Scripting experience (bash, Python, Ruby, PHP, etc)
• Github contributions
• Chef or Ansible experience.
